By Yachtspotter.

Each season has its highlight and in the year 2000, it was Tatoosh. She was named after the island on the Pacific northwest of the USA marking the entrance to the Straits of San Juan which lead to the more familiar Puget Sound and Seattle - home of the tele-communications baron Craig MacCaw who commissioned her. She was sold to Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Her jumbled design, which can be appreciated more given a little time to adapt , is not without comparison to Leander G. This should not be surprising as the two yachts have joint designers. But contrary to her elder cousin, Tatoosh raises more modern lines. Aside decoration, work was shared by Terence Disdale and Jon Bannenberg. The result is a wonder of simplicity, without ostentation, offering a classical environment of good taste.

Livable volume is impressive. Of course, Tatoosh has a double bottom which contains storage sections and part of the crew quarters. The aft of the lower deck accommodates a large lazarette which shares the space occupied by the swimming pool (which is on the main deck level). In this area we also find a dive decompression chamber, bathroom, sauna, dedicated diving room (opening externally to starboard) and a Jacuzzi with a bar adjacent to the aft bathing-platform. On the same level ahead are six guest staterooms, the engine room (center), and the remainder of the crew's quarters (forward).

The first deck offers a splendid aft deck comprising a 30m³ swimming pool beneath a full overhang. Entering the interior, we find the main lounge, the dining room (aft), the galley, a family room, a cinema (centre), and part of the owner's suite comprising the owner's full-beam bedroom (forward) and two staterooms for the children (set just behind).

The second deck accommodates a panoramic lounge (aft), two staterooms (for the staff and the guests), an infirmary, a small lounge (center), and the second part of the owner's suite comprising an office, a gymnasium and an observation lounge (forward) - certainly the most beautiful part of the yacht!

The aft of the third deck accommodates the main helipad and all the equipment for maintenance of the helicopter which remains onboard permanently - fuelled by kerosene from an onboard kerosene tank! The interior features a dedicated lounge for helicopter passengers (aft), a stateroom for the helicopter pilot (what consideration!), the first officer's stateroom, the captain's stateroom and his office (center), and the pilothouse (forward).

The sundeck accommodates a seldom used second helipad (aft), the funnel containing technical spaces (center) and a solarium (forward). The main tenders are recessed on both sides of Tatoosh on the second deck level. One of 42ft is a motor boat, the other of 43ft is a sailing yacht designed by German Frers.
