By Yachtspotter.

I remember the first time I saw her. It was at the end of June 2003. The yacht approached Antibes, France, it?s mast of a vertiginous height exceeding the port's famous ramparts. The impressive Georgia had just arrived at the IYCA for the first time since her launch in 2000.

Georgia was the largest sloop in the World for more than four years until the launch of Mirabella V. And before the launch of Felicitá West, Georgia was the biggest sailing ship built of aluminium, and her carbon mast was also the largest in the World with a height of 59 meters.

Her first owner, an American yachtsman, previously owned the sailing ship Atlanta. Both yachts were built by Alloy Yachts and the two yachts have an atypical hull color : Bordeaux red. But there, the comparison stops because Georgia is a sailboat that is out of the ordinary. The design of her superstructure is surprising. In contrast the interior decoration is very traditional. Wood is omnipresent. And the installation has surprises of a beautiful nature thanks to the large volumes available.

The lower deck is the most traditional area of Georgia. We find there a garage for the main tender (another one for the crew is on the foredeck) which opens on the stern thus forming a bathing-platform. Just beyond is the engine room - of reduced size, it contains one engine. What follows, always in the stern position, is the owner?s suite. It occupies the full-beam and contains a lounge corner. A small independent gymnasium supplements the suite. The center accommodates the four guest staterooms. As is usual we find the crew quarters which contains the kitchen in forward position.

The main deck is a wonder of design. The stern accommodates two opposing sofas in a 'U' shape. Well protected, this area can be entirely enclosed for air-conditioning. When entering the yacht, we discover the main lounge. It is composed of two large sofas in an 'L' shaped configuration on the port side and a bar to starboard. The characteristic of this area are the two large windows on both sides which offer marvellous sea views. Ahead there's the pilothouse. Slightly raised, it overhangs the dining room. Contrary to normal practice, there is no separation between these two parts of the yacht, which gives an important impression of volume.

The sundeck accommodates a solarium (aft), a Jacuzzi surrounded by sofas (center) and a second pilothouse (forward). This second pilothouse is doubled to port and starboard and offers the best position during navigation under sail. Finally, Georgia features a lifting keel which allows her the possibility of approaching closely to shore. The draught ranging from 7.3m to 3.6m.
