Comments By Yachtspotter.
Discovering a new yacht is always an exhilarating experience. But when the yacht dates from 1962, what even more to be surprised about. This is what happened to me the summer 2002 when I observed Dionea arriving in the port Canto of Cannes. At this time nobody was able to give me any information on her. I had just seen a ghost megayacht!
It is only lately that I finally discovered the origin of Dionea. She was employed as a passenger day boat until 1992 on routes from Trieste to harbours of Istria peninsula (now Croatia) and other Trieste surroundings, together with her sister ship Ambria Bella. But during 2002 she underwent an extensive refit in Genoa, city which now is her home port. Her tour towards Cannes was certainly one of her first voyages as a yacht.
Her form completely contrasts with modern designs. The superstructures are low, the hull is slender and there are very vast external spaces. Observing Dionea, it is difficult to believe that she measures nearly 52 meters long ? the r?tro design giving her considerable charm.
Compared to outside, her interior installation is very modern and stripped-down. The whole is sober and in good taste. The lower deck accommodates the crew quarters (aft), the engine room (to the center) and five guests staterooms (forward). The main deck includes an entrance with benches (aft), the galley and dining room (to the center) and a large lounge occupying the entire full beam zone (forward). The upper deck accommodates a large external area comprising a solarium and a dining area (aft), an area around the funnel with two tenders on both sides (to the center) and the superstructure containing the owner's suite and the pilothouse (forward).
Dionea?s sister ship, called Ambria Bella, awaits a purchaser to undergo the same conversion... |
