Yes, you're right Roberto. Sailors are superstitious. There are no hulls with that numbers. And I think it's the same for Benetti, Azimut, and maybe others...

I need a confirmation, in Mangusta's hull number (92'-105'-108') I never find nb. 13 and 17!
It is for superstition?

Yes no doubt about that. The African Cat launched in 2002 is for sale since a long time, so we can imagine that a successor was scheduled. About the hull number... 130/10. Do you know the hull 130/9? Maybe Forever One is included in this series...

Just inform you that the new Mangusta 165' hull number 1 Salvaje did its second sea trials around Viareggio on July 16 at 30 Kts with 2 engines and 39,8 Kts with the 3 engines (powered by MTU with 3 x 16V 4000 M90 series 2800 Kw each). Delivery estimated 24th July Golf Juan or Cannes. The first presentation was in St Tropez for the Rendez-vous Rodriguez last weekend in July.

This run was made with 17000 Lts of fuel and 4000 Lts water but without the 2 jet ski, tender and some additional weight... Salvaje should be cruise at 30Kts and top speed 37-38 Kts... Very impressive!!

Solomia; here she is. She was off Juan Les Pins yesterday.

Indeed, she's awesome now! And it will be easier for the spotters to recognize her from far.

In connection with the Mangusta 130, Merijn just reported me that he spotted a Mangusta 130 named Solomia off Juan-les-Pins. According to the picture I received, Solomia has many common points with Salvaje (130/02) : same sat domes, same color, same portholes, etc... More, Salvaje had her name removed from the stern one month ago. And according to rumours, a new Salvaje is under construction. So...?

A TF50 (4100 kw) need at fuel trottle 276g fuel for each kw/h, the TF40 (2990 kw) needs 299g. You can calculate that this would be realy a lot. A diesel engine will try 195 - 220 g for each kw/h. Bigger onces need less than smaler (Rolls Royce MT30 gasturbine with 199g per kw/h and MTU 20V 8000er M70 Series 191g per kw/h for example).

TF40 -> 1 hour full speed = 894 kg fuel
TF50 -> 1 hour full speed = 1132 kg fuel

Ecstasea :
GE LM2500 226g kw/h at 24609 kw -> 1 hour full speed = 5561 kg fuel
+ four diesel engines with around 195 - 210 g kw/h

By the way, I heard she runs 40 kn !!!

Ecstasea : 23300 KW not HP!

Posted by David | 02/08/2007 @ 10:30 | Reply

15,000hp on a Mangusta? They rattle enough with the current configuration! I cannot see how they would handle that much power. Consider Ecstasea with her engine configuration and hull construction, i.e. steel. Now try that on a fiberglass hull.

What about fuel consumption? Ecstasea is about 10,000 - 12,000 liters per hour for 24,000 hp. 15,000 hp will use at least 6,000 liters per hour. Where are they going to put the fuel?

Can you, please, tell me what do you think about new Mangusta 130S propulsion options? I am sure it is going to look just amazing, like 105S. Maybe, Mangusta 130S is going to have one, among some others, propulsion option with CODAG arrangement consisting of two MTU 16V 4000 M90 (I am not sure if M93 and M93L versions are already available on the market) and one Vericor TF50 gas turbine in between? It would be meanning, if 16V 4000 M93L engines would be used, together with TF50 turbine, that Mangusta 130S could have 15.000 hp of power, but, of course, it depends on many factors. The question is if this yacht could support such a power with its construction.

Some news of the future Mangusta 165. To summarize, she will be a larger version of the Mangusta 130 with some improvements. First of all, she will have a real sundeck with a dining area, a solarium and a helm station.

On the main deck, two lounges, a formal dining area and a real wheelhouse. Note that a part of the aft deck is protected from the sun by a roof (the solarium of the sundeck).

The lower deck accommodates the engine room (three engines in aft position), a crew area for seven members, and the guests area for ten in five staterooms including a full-beam owner suite. In this first version, an extra room is a little lounge. No doubt that it can be changed into another stateroom to accommodate twelve guests...

Some specifications :
- LOA : 163.70 ft / 49.90 m
- beam : 30.20 ft / 9.20 m
- engine : 3x 2800kW MTU 16V 4000M90 diesels
- speed (mx/cr) : 35/30 knts

I also came across the profile of what could be the new Mangusta 130S, which on the Overmarine website is said to be "top secret" as well as a new Mangusta 165 under constuction. The 130S is the "pilothouse verison" of the 130 open similar to what the 105S was for the 108. And what about the 165 ??
