Al Mirqab during her sea trials. |
Posted by Delcio | 06/11/2008 @ 14:10 | Reply Is without any question a fantastic M/Y, but and there's always a but... That helipad, hum... It takes bit of foward section shine! The swan mast is just master piece of "art", in my opinion it gives some "personality" to the yacht. |

Today I was at the Peterswerft in Wewelsfleth too. |
Posted by Jannick | 06/05/2008 @ 23:00 | Reply I've been to Wewelsfleth with Carl Groll - I've been on the other side of the bridge - some pictures to follow :) |

Thank you Leveller, there was a lot of spotters to see her!
Interesting to see that the tenders are already on board. This one looks like a limousine (maybe a catamaran) with a forward cabin, like the one on Coral Island...

To Jannik : I have to thank you so much. I just was in Wewelsfleet today and made the best pictures of my life. |

The best Al Mirqab pictures I made today. It was fantastic! |
Posted by Jannick | 06/04/2008 @ 20:15 | Reply To all the enthusiasts around, go to Wewelsfleth tommorow - in the afternoon there'll be some more activty ;) |
Posted by NOK | 04/11/2008 @ 13:05 | Reply I had never noticed the mast looking like a swan…but now you mention it, it does and I think it looks beautiful. Yes I agree with the comment below that she looks like Pelorus... but she's also so much more!! Look at what has been coming out recently - Rising Sun, Sunflower, Dubai, Sigma - all of which I admit have their certain styling characteristics, but I can't say that any of them are pretty. But May is in proportion for such a large vessel, clean lines, swooping transom, not only does she look elegant she also looks seaworthy which is a combination not many yachts manage to achieve. May is the benchmark from which all other yachts should be measured. |

We are talking about this mast/funnel, maybe too high (necessary to keep the exhaust fumes away from the aft decks), maybe not proportionate... But did you notice that her design looks like a Swan ! I just remarked it during the last night...
Posted by Yachtspotter | 04/09/2008 @ 20:35 | Reply The helipad is located above the wheelhouse. This could explain that the part in front of the mast will stay clear : http://cibadesign.com/... |
Posted by Fatboy | 04/09/2008 @ 20:30 | Reply Finally! But wait... they forgot a deck ;-) Seriously, this is not what I expected. It looks so ordinary from bottom to the 2nd superstructure deck. But above, one additional deck would have looked better. |

As promised a better photo... |
Posted by Jacques | 04/09/2008 @ 16:00 | Reply I was disappointed when I saw the first picture of May (www.shipspotting.com/...) because of this mast. But a view of the profile gives a better idea of her design. And the whole is more proportionate... |
Posted by Max881 | 04/09/2008 @ 12:05 | Reply Wow, great design, much better than Al Said ! |

Thank you very much for these pictures! May is typically a Heywood design. For example the inverted line on the hull (cf Pelorus), the wing wheel, etc... |

Project May "unofficially" launched 8th April 2008. |
Posted by Yachtspotter | 01/08/2008 @ 11:20 | Reply Some news of the project May which is now due for delivery in ...May! There is no doubt now, the 133 metres project will be the successor of Al Mirqab (now Indian Empress). |
Posted by Paul Walter | 03/20/2006 @ 13:15 | Reply The 133m project May left its building dock March 6th and was towed into another dock for the rest of the work. Here you can see a first picture of her : http://www.peters-ag.de/... She is definitely a Heywood project. |
Posted by Yachtspotter | 02/07/2006 @ 11:40 | Reply Good find Leveller! According to what we already found in the past, May seems to be a Heywood project. Her delivery is scheduled for 2007. It's also possible that she's the successor of Stargate and Constellation... Many conjectures, hope that we will know more soon. |
Posted by Leveller | 02/07/2006 @ 11:30 | Reply I found in a presentation from Peters AG, (PowerPoint file, see link), a project of Kusch Yachts which is called ?May? (NB 681), 133,00 m length, 19,50 m breadth, 5,00 m draught, does anyone have more about this project? Link : http://www.peters-ag.de/... |
Posted by Yachtspotter | 11/30/2005 @ 13:00 | Reply Thanks Paul! I find this profile of Solea in 1974 when she was launched. Also another photo before refit. Links : http://werften.fischtown.de/... / http://www.ship-photo.de/... |
Posted by Paul Walter | 11/29/2005 @ 10:30 | Reply Solea, originally build at the Sieghold-Werft in Bremerhaven, Germany as a research vessel, was delivered to her French owner the 29th October 2005 after a 14 month conversion at the Peterswerft. In addition to a complete new interior, all the electric work, piping, generators and main engines where either replaced or completely reconditioned. Solea arrived in La Rochelle the 15th November.
Specs :
- Length: 35m
- Beam: 9m
- Engine: Deutz 870hp
- Cruising Speed: 12kn
You can find a picture of Solea on the website of the Peterswerft : http://www.peters-ag.de/... |
Posted by Yachtspotter | 11/28/2005 @ 11:00 | Reply Paul, can you give us more detail about the conversion of Solea? |
