Perini's Salute is in Monaco... Impressive yacht!

First launch of the year at Perini. It's a new hull from the 56m series (Burrasca, Santa Maria, Rosehearty, Selene). Her name is Salute. But She has some particularities. First she's a sloop (a single mast of 75 metres) and not a ketch like her sisters. And she has a special foredeck with the addition of a veranda, like the one previously seen on Liberty (now renamed Galaxia). Rémi Tessier created the Japanese styled interior. Her card will be in the database in a couple of minutes. You can also discover her on the website of Perini : http://www.perininavi.it/...

I think that it will be possible to spot them together (MF, MV, Eos and Athena) during the America's Cup in 2007.

Posted by Mark | 09/29/2006 @ 09:11 | Reply

No chance of a meeting for these three yachts for some time. Athena has just anchored in Auckland Harbour and what a sight she is too.

That is a beautiful photo, it is very powerful! Yes, it would be really interesting to see Maltese Falcon sail along either of those two new classics. I remember Boat International once had renderings of Maltese Falcon, Athena and Mirabella V side by side, which was quite instructive.

Posted by Mark | 09/26/2006 @ 10:05 | Reply

At last a photo of her really sailing in some good wind. Perhaps it is her hull and superstructure colourings that do not help her appearance? Johan your comments make good sense. Time will tell. Would it not be great to see Eos or Athena sailing alongside her?

Well Mark, I agree with you that the photo by Dvd is less than flattering, but on the other hand many sailing yachts look a bit strange with reduced sail area. As for Athena and Eos, they are also very beautiful (I am with you on that count), but what I think is interesting about Maltese Falcon is that she has a modern styling and is not a copy of something else. The clipper bowed yachts are beautiful, but they are imitations of clipper ships of the 1880s while Maltese Falcon is a product of the present day modernism. I think it is quite normal that good design is copied, wether it may be Carinthia VI, Maltese Falcon - or old clipper ships! But as I said, she is avant gardistic, and that doesn't mean it appeals to everybody, we all have different views on the matter of taste.

Posted by Mark | 08/18/2006 @ 14:30 | Reply

Johan - take a look at the picture posted by Dvd ? a beauty I think not ? what is it? A ship, a yacht or a motor yacht? The real test will be if another owner commissions something similar ? I would take Eos or Athena any day over this thing. They are true sailing yachts of a grand design with a view on the future as well as a link to the past. The yachts you have mentioned as great designs have all being copied in some form or other ? will Maltese Falcon be so unlucky?

Posted by Yachtspotter | 08/17/2006 @ 00:01 | Reply

It seems that the wind was strong, and it's interesting to see her with a limited sails configuration.

Yesterday Maltese Falcon was in navigation in the Gulf of Cagliari, Sardinia facing a tourist resort called Porto Columbu.

I think the Maltese Falcon is a beauty and shows the way forward for large sailing yachts. Her paint scheme is in line with earlier Perinis Andromeda and Andromeda La Dea, while her proportions are classic with her long fore and aft decks. Rather than harking back to earlier designs she is an avant garde design which will quite likely be considered a classic of her time, like Carinthia VI was in the 70s. Like her superstructure, her rigging - slightly reminiscent of a Chinese junk - continues the avant garde design rather than being a industrial assembly of spars and lines. Rather than being a recreation of yachts built for another era with (however lovely they can be) Maltese Falcon is a giant leap forward, both in terms of engineering and of design.

Posted by Mark | 08/16/2006 @ 09:00 | Reply

I think this sailing yacht is ugly and without the beautiful lines of Eos or Athena. Perhaps we have reached the limit on just how big a sailing yacht can be before it becomes a commercial style sail training vessel which some of the worlds Navy?s use for training purposes, e.g. Mexico, Italy and Poland with their sail training ships - albeit in the traditional style. This yacht reminds me of the cargo ship with sails which was built in the 1970?s after the first oil crisis - put simply it does not look right. Compared to Tom Perkins previous yachts his new vessel is a major step backwards, not least for sailing yacht design in general.

The 58m Perini Taouey arrived sunday back in Monaco and - surprise - has her hull newly painted in white! Her mast electronics have also been replaced/updated meaning that the yacht must have been through an extensive refit during the winter.

Maltese Falcon had a special permission to leave Grand Harbour under sails! Usually sail boats have to use their engines in harbours. Some pictures are available on the website of the yacht. The spectacle was beautiful! Now Maltese Falcon is on way to Italy for her "debut". We can imagine that she will be in La Spezia soon...

New launch today for Perini, the sloop Heritage. With a length of 45m, she was designed by Perini and Ron Holland. An atypical design for a Perini, which reminds us the "former" 32.9m Heritage built in 2000 (for sale now).

Yes impressive to see the yacht with her three masts now. I'm curious to know the action of the wind during a storm. Sail boats with "wind-mast" run very fast in storm, even without sails...

Very good find Velox, thank you! She looks impressive. Her superstructure is painted in silver, like on the previous Owner's Perini's. The only bad news is that she will leave Turkey at the end of June. Any more pictures from Turkey are welcome! We're curious to discover her!

Andy, the best way to differentiate the Perini sisters is the appendix on the masts. I think that she's from the Phryne series, with only a small satcom and two radars on one mast. She looks like Is A Rose...

When I recently went to Tobago over the day I spotted this beautiful sailing yacht in one of the bays. Looks like a Perini Navi but I'm not that an expert. Do you recognize it? I would like to know the name anyway. They all look very similar to me...

Rosehearty was delivered to her owner few days ago. She's the third Perini of the 56m series. Her design is from Perini and Ron Holland, and her interior is from Christian Liaigre. Thanks to her white hull, she will be easily recognizable by the spotters.
