About the movie "Open Water Adrift" (message 03/10/2008), yes she's a real beauty! She is the SY Annagine built in 2004 by K&M yacht-builders in Holland. She is a 76 foot (23.2m) sloop with 6 guest berths in 3 cabins and 2 crew. Google it for more info.

In the last James Bond, Quantum of Solace (not the best one...), it's possible to see the Sunseeker M4 in the background of a scene. There is a Westport 112 also, but it's impossible to identify her. This moment of the movie is supposed to take place in Haiti, but it was filmed in Panama.

Haida G makes a splendid appearance in the movie Mamma Mia! to the tunes of ABBA's "Money, money, money". Among the stars in this feel-good film (besides Haida G of course) are Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. You can see the clip with Haida G on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/...

In the movie "Condorman" (kitsch and not really good...) features the yacht Hanse (now Insignia) in the harbour of Monaco in 1980. There's a rapid scene aboard her aftdeck. And around we can see Istranka, Antarctica, Bluemar II, Belgravia, Xarifa.

I don't think that De Voogt ever played a role in the refit of Yecats. De Voogt did assist in the refit of Aviva, which is now the latest Attessa.

I had a question about the yacht in the movie Overboard. I contacted the former captain of the Attessa, and he said that the Attessa was originally named Yecats at the time of the movie. I was wondering if you had any information on the Yecats before her re-fitting with De Voogt Naval Architects. Please let me know if you have any information.

One Eagle, which is currently being converted into a yacht (http://www.yachtspotter.com/...), plays the role of a coast guard ship in the movie "Baltic Storm". That movie is thriller based on a conspiracy theory around the sinking of the ferry Estonia which sank in the Baltic 1994 killing some 850 people. One Eagle was used for some controversial diving operations to Estonia afterwards and the subsequent filming of "Baltic Storm".

There is a 38 to 42 meter yacht in the first twenty minutes of the movie "Rosebud" from 1975. It was not possible for me to identify the yacht, but it is not a Feadship, probably an Italian built yacht.

The Attessa used in the movies Overboard and Indecent Proposal was originally name Yecats and was built in Hong Kong at Kong & Halvorsen. I was the original captain when she was launched.

Posted by Johan | 07/27/2005 @ 12:00 | Reply

The spelling seems correct, I can add that her length before the refit was 130 feet (39 metres). She was later lengthened and thoroughly refitted to designs by Glade Johnson before being relaunched as Attessa.

I think Yecats was built by Kong & Halvorsen (I hope I got the spelling of the yard right). If memory serves me correctly, her hull was constructed of very high strength steel.

A year ago there was some advertising on the websites of brokers, because they were looking for somebody who would let their yacht play in a movie. Does anybody know wich yacht it is?

In the French movie "Bimboland", you can see a long sceene on Bermie in the port of Nice. You can see the different decks and the main lounge. For information, the 43m Bermie now named Uniwest, was built by Siar & Moschini in 1991.

In "Goldeneye", yacht's name is Manticore, but in reality, it's Northern Cross. For me, first scene on board the yacht (where Pierce Brosnan is in the dining area located on the aft of the main deck), and when he's in the main saloon, have been shooted in the real yacht. Indeed, if you take yacht's plans to see the movie, you can see what correspond with the movie (place of benches, tables, easy chairs...). In the port Hercule, we also can see the French frigate La Fayette (F710), somes scenes on board the tender of Manticore (a Riva Aquarama), sailing yacht Baboon, one Feadship (Montigne?) and of course Atlantis II.

The yacht in the film the Bourne Identity is the 46.00m White Knight.

The Hydrofoil that was Disco Volante in Thunderball was built in 1957 as Flying Fish by Rodriguez Cantieri Navali, Italy. She was bought by the film producers in Puerto Rico and shipped to Miami, where US $500,000 was spent at Miami Shipbuilding Corp converting her into Disco Volante. No info on what happened to her. She may have been destroyed for the film.

Another famous yachts has played a major part in a movie. It is another movie refering to Aristote Onassis, who is called Tomasis in this film called "The Greek Tycon". The part of Tomasis is wonderfully performed by Anthony Quinn and the yacht is Lady Sarya, at the time (1978) La Belle Simone. It is not a great movie and is only interesting for Quinn or Jacqueline Bisset's fans... and of course for La Belle Simone, who is very largely shown in this movie. You can see the yacht hosting a big party, at anchor, while cruising, etc. The salon, master suite and open decks are shown. Yachts afficionados must see this movie without any doubts!
Some precisions about other yachts you guys mentionned. It seems for me that in "Goldeneye", it is not the interior at the least not the master suite of Northern Cross. It is without no doubt, this yacht in the exterior scenes but the interior I am not sure. As far as I remember, the master suite looks different. I could be wrong all the more as it would logical to shoot everything in the same boat, but they might have done the bedroom scenes in studio.
Finally, still about the James Bond movies, our host mentionned Kingdom 5KR in "Never say never again" (she was Nabila at the time) who bared the name of "Flying saucer" in the movie, the english for "Disco Volante", the name of the yacht in the original movie, "Thunderball". Does anyone of you know this boat, that transforms at the end of the movie into a hydrofoil (it must have been 2 different boats)?

In an Italian maffia series, La Piovra III or IV, the Picchiotti Lady in Red (ex Parts V, ex Legend of Tintagel, ex Monitor and today known as Quiet Place) played a part as a headquarters for one of the big maffia guys.
On Morten's message on the movie about Onassis : the yacht subsituting for "Christina" was the 59/60 meter Absinthe, ex Claire T.

A couple more movies with yachts :
A Cat's Meow featuring the yacht Marala. Released a few years back, the movie gives great prominence to the yacht with a number of exterior shots and shots on the aft and foredecks. The interiors scenes were all shot in a studio and bears no resemblance to the yacht.
The Last of Sheila, yacht unknown. An older movie from 1973 which also prominently features this classic yacht of around 45-50m. The interior shots were done in a studio.
The Player (1979), yacht unknown. Not the Tim Robbins movie but an older movie with Ali McGraw. Features scenes with a Feadship-style yacht off Monaco.
Onassis : The Richest Man In The World. Made for TV movie about Onassis' life. Features a yacht, can't remember which one, but it is not Christina. Also some shots from Monaco harbour.
James Bond - For Your Eyes Only. Don't know the name of the yacht, but it's a classic trideck yacht.

Another one : in the Pink Panther series there was a movie released in 1993 : "The Son of the Pink Panther" with Roberto Benigni from ?La vita ? bella?-fame as Jacques Clouseau Junior. As Clouseau Jr he is investigating the kidnapping of a princess. The 52 meter Benetti Darnice III played a part in that movie : she was kidnapped on board with the use of helicopter. There were shots taken inside and on deck. It was also the only one time that I saw the heli-deck onboard Darnice III used. The sequences where filmed onboard in Monaco at the end of August, beginning of September 1992. I remember discussing it with her First Officer : they shot film for days for only a few short minutes in the movie.

Here are some more "stars"...
Striptease - 172ft Big Eagle, although I believe the interior shots were a set.
Clear and Present Danger - 147ft Feadship Antarctica (ex Enchanter) was shown in the opening sequences.
Overboard - Attessa (later 142 ft Huntress, which sank after a fire) was featured before her refit.
Indecent Proposal - 142ft Atessa, following her refit
Swept Away - a really horrible movie with Madonna, but was filmed aboard the 120ft Fair Lady
Donnie Brasco - 110ft Christensen-built R. Rendezvous
There is also another movie, and unfortunately I cannot remember the name of it, which features the 193ft Marala. I will have to see if I can find the name.

It's always a good surprise to discover a yacht in a movie. The views are always good and sometimes we could discover the interior. Kingdom 5KR will stay forever the star of the James Bond "Never say never again". In another one, "Goldeneye", we saw Northern Cross (in and out) in the port Hercule, Monaco. In the French movie "Le Grand Bleu" (which certainly inspired the initial owner of LGB), we saw Deianeira...
