New images in Google Earth covering Genoa. The pics were made in June 2008. You can see Nomad in drydock for example: 44°24'9.20"N, 8°55'43.39"E

The area of Athens (Greece) has new pics (Jan 08). E.g. there's Alexander at: 38°2'14.09"N, 23°30'14.95"E

Well, not literally "spotting from the sky", but when you look down Rue Ruska or Rue Pacho in Google's Street View (Nice, near Port Lympia, approx. 43°41'55.97"N, 7°17'7.65"E) you can see Lauren L. A little blurred due to the distance, but clearly recognizable.

On the same row... Islander, no idea about the SY (maybe a Swan), a Codecasa (maybe Mariu), Mystere CI, and the last looks like Tuscan Sun. Here (41°22'42.69"N, 2°10'57.25"E) you have Southern Cross, Mata Mua, Buka, a smaller classic SY, William Tai, and Danae. Here (41°22'33.56"N, 2°11'11.51"E) you have Phryne and Alibi.

At Fisher Island, you have Nice N' Easy, an Azimut and a Predator 108 (Unico) at the jetty, and Gray Mist III is the largest yacht at the mid pier (also another Sunseeker). The yacht at the Terminal is a Benetti (Allegro?). At Miami Beach Marina, there are Sirona III, the Heesen Simone (now renamed), Dream Seeker (more to the South)...

New data in GE. To all, I would find it very nice, if the yachts I don't know could be named by others (as far this is possible). Thank you.

Is this topic also about Microsofts Local Live/Virtual Earth? There are some yachts visible and I was wondering, that nobody posted it (as far as I can see). So there are:

- Triple Seven in a dock at HDW in Kiel (Bird's Eye)
- Eos at the Lürssen yard in Lemwerder
- Rising Sun at the other side of the Weser in Bremen/Aumund
- Samar at a pier in Oslo (Bird's Eye)
- Carinthia VII, Ronin, Ecstasea, Alysia or Delma, Kingdom 5KR and a few more in Antibes (Bird's Eye)
- RM Elegant anchoring at Villefranche sur Mer (Bird's Eye)
- Turama, The One, Atlantis II and Lady Moura in Monte Carlo, Port Hercule (Bird's Eye)
- Golden Odyssey in Cannes (Bird's Eye)
- Montkaj at Marseille (Bird's Eye)
- Shaf and Lady Haya in Puerto Banus, Marbella (Bird's Eye)

I think these Bird's Eye photos are very impressive.

The one on the right is Dhafir. I have a doubt for the other ones. They like to add biminis over the foredeck, the sundeck, etc... Then the profile is altered. Other yachts are in this shed, for a total of three, maybe four yachts.

- at the Christensen ship yard at the Vancouver Lake a 43 m yacht is visible (45°36'49.50"N, 122°37'34.45"W). About 1.000 m to the west a 36 m yacht is out of the water.

Impressive report Leveller, thank you. About your report on Toulon (St Mandrier, La Seyne, etc...) I will give you some clue. The 60m yacht near Cedar Sea II is Titan. I have no idea about the smaller one.

The little yard above (with the floating drydock) is Foselev Marine. The larger yacht is Galapagos. You forgot another pier, not far from there (43° 6'18.23"N, 5°53'52.01"E) : you can see Maria II on the left and Queen Nefertiti on the right.

The yard at St Mandrier is IMS. I think this shot was taken approx. one year ago. You can see Sweet Doll, Duke Town, ..., Moonmaiden II, Allegra, Kijo side by side. On vertical position there is Camelot, but I don't recognize the larger one. And at the end of the pier there are Diana (C&N 1963, I hope that she will be saved from a sad end...) and Unbelievable.

Again an update of GE and some (many this time) new finds :

- in Plymouth, UK, Kalamoun and Destriero have moved about 150 m to the south and the resolution is better. My measurements show Kalamoun with 36.50 m. (50°22'48.62"N, 4°11'1.68"W)

- Gosport offers us two interesting yachts. One 32 m sailing which reminds me a bit of a Wally at 50°48'7.16"N, 1° 7'20.84"W (BTW: The mooring is a bit strange) and a 31.50 m motor yacht about 25 m to the west. This one looks a bit funny from above, so if someone can identify her I would like to see a picture from another ankle.

- at the Sunseeker yard in Poole a 30 m yacht and a green 33 m hull are visible. (50°42'41.42"N, 1°59'22.00"W)

- at the Brighton Marina a 32 m (maybe) Sunseeker. (50°48'34.15"N, 0° 6'2.04"W)

- in Travemünde Germany Sanssouci Star at 53°57'22.26"N, 10°52'23.92"E.

- near the NYK container terminal in Amsterdam lays a 43 m two master sailing yacht. An unusual place. (52°24'53.25"N, 4°46'2.49"E)

- next to the former Scheepswerf Bouwer yard we can see a 31 m yacht. (52°25'27.87"N, 4°50'49.98"E)

- at Coenhabour in Amsterdam we can find (must be) Utopia and a 50 m yacht. (52°24'24.11"N, 4°52'1.77"E)

- a 30 m sailing yacht at CNB yard in Bordeaux, France. (44°51'48.23"N, 0°32'28.13"W)

- at Las Palmas, Canary Islands, there are two 49 m yacht and a 67 m yacht which seems to be Apoise. (28°8'20.27"N, 15°25'22.95"W, the second 49 m yacht is about 350 m to the north west)

- at the Marina in Las Palmas a 46 m yacht can be found. (28° 7'35.14"N, 15°25'29.46"W)

- Port America's Cup, Valencia bears a beautiful 39 m (with bow 46 m???) sailing yacht. (39°27'33.83"N, 0°19'43.45"W)

- at the Club Nautico in Valencia are from left to right a 30 m, 41 m and 36 m yacht. The picture quality is very good. (39°25'35.33"N, 0°19'48.62"W)

- Prince Abdulaziz is visible at 41°22'17.20"N, 2°10'59.19"E in the port of Barcelona. There are although many other yachts to discover in the ports of this city. For example a ca 47 m explorer which may be Putty VI (as the pictures where taken then Turmoil) - 41°22'46.33"N, 2°11'2.20"E.

- at Port Forum a ca 77 m yacht from which I think it must be Princess Mariana (41°24'47.09"N, 2°13'44.97"E) and two ca 66 m yacht to the right from her.

- French coast from Narbonne to the Rhône delta is now super Hi-Res. I found no yachts above 30 m, but for those who ever wanted to have a detailed look on Port Carmarque from above here we are: 43°30'59.23"N, 4° 8'1.27"E.

- Cedar Sea II is visible at La Seyne-sur-Mer together with a 34 m and a 60 m yacht (43° 6'19.69"N, 5°52'58.98"E). A bit to the north there is a 51 m yacht out of the water and a 46 m yacht in a floating dock (43° 6'32.63"N, 5°52'57.11"E)

- at a ship yard in St. Mandrier near Toulon at least 10 yachts above 30 m can be seen mostly out of water: 43° 4'47.47"N, 5°54'17.43"E.

- new images although for San Remo, Italy : 43°49'4.41"N, 7°47'13.40"E.

- at Savona, Italy, a ca 58 m sailing yacht lays together with a 30 m (maybe Mondomarine) in the port : 44°18'37.51"N, 8°29'22.97"E.

- new image although for Porto Cervo, with many yachts, one of them 72 m (I am unsure, the SAT-domes say Boadicea but they are in the wrong position and the blue funnel is missing) - 41° 8'8.68"N, 9°32'12.18"E.

- now visible are the ship yards of TKMS Nobiskrug (54°18'39.61"N, 9°41'53.01"E), Lürssen Rendsburg (54°19'16.85"N, 9°43'8.36"E) and Lürssen Wilhelmshafen (53°31'25.31"N, 8° 8'51.58"E).

Thanks Leveller. About the last one, it's not Montkaj but the Oceanco Stargate.

Gross-Segler, we know that these pictures are "obsolete". We only do an inventory of yachts shown through this software. Usually these pictures were taken some years before, the best example is Monaco, still without her new jetty...

Not sure what "updated" means. Le Grand Bleu is today anchored off St Jean Cap Ferrat (minus the sailing yacht usually carried at her port-side davits), and left Blohm & Voss, Hamburg nearly one year ago (11 June 2006) according to her "card"! Are the other images equally obsolete? Maybe Google Earth should date their displays, to avoid confusing us.
