People were asking about news on Silver Swan. Yes it is true, it caught fire and burned down in 2002, in Dubai.

I read in a Dutch magazine an article about a former crew member of the Empress Subaru. It said that Gordon Butler bought the yacht in 1984. On the website of Albwardymarine you can read that they did an refit of an 50 meter yacht and there is also an picture of how the yacht looked after the refit. I am almost sure that the pictures is of the Silver Swan (ex Empress Subaru, ex The Pearl), because if you look good to the picture you can see her name.

This link (http://www.studioingsole.it/gallery.html) is also showing a picture of the Silver Swan. If you look through there reference list you can find the name of the 50 meter The Pearl. Another indication that the yacht on the pictures is the Silver Swan.

On the website of Albwardymarine you can also read that her sister the Oceanstar also was hit by an fire. Just coincidence that both yachts were hit by fire or aren't they as safe as should be?

Empress Subaru was built as Genros in 1979 and was 46.88m. She was later renamed Santa Maria, then New Santa Maria for the owner of CRN, Gianni Accardo. She was then sold to Robert Butler, US Subaru importer and renamed Empress Subaru. He kept the yacht for many years before she was acquired by Panaghis Zissimatos, the Greek shipowner, and renamed Princess of Adriatic. He then got into financial difficulties and the yacht "disappeared". It was eventually found hiding in Romanian waters under the name Venus. The yacht was then acquired by an Arab and renamed The Pearl undergoing a total redesign and rebuild at Albawardy Marine in Dubai 1999-2002. On completion she was renamed Silver Swan and has apparently become a total loss after a fire on board in the Arabian Gulf.

Indeed this CRN has an interesting history since she was missing at a certain time and there was a search for her. Was it not when she was still named Empress Subaru or was she already named Princess of Adriatic at that time? I'm not sure ; I do remember a big add in Boat International where a substantial reward was offered for anyone with information on her.

I have a question about The Pearl, CRN of 50m built in 1979. She has the same general design than Taipan or Oceanstar. Does anybody have some news of her since her refit in 2000? I heard that she could have a fire on board... is it true?
