Hi Andy Lindy,

In respect of the Wyuna we are still in the process of tracing her background, you are right to say that they were built in two different yards but both yards were close to each other in Glasgow and the exterior design and certain features of both vessels are very simular, hence use of the term "Sister Ship".

On an interesting note : There are documented plans for the Wyuna and the Royal Yacht Britannia that date to 1950 and so both vessels were concieved, built and delivered pretty much at the same time. We are trying to find out if the Naval Architects or engineering team may have been from the same office or there is some technical link between the two vessels.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has any more information. We have traced back the Wyuna drawings back to pre 1950 and so we would be interested to know which vessel lines were concieved first, was the Britannia based on the Wyuna, or visa versa or did they evolve down through totally separate paths.

If anyone has any background information on this then that would surely help us solve the mystery. On a separate note : here is the link to the launching ceremony of the Wyuna back in 1952 : http://www.classicsuperyachts...

This conversion project concerns the former Australian pilot support vessel Wyuna.
She was built in 1953 by Ferguson Shipbuilders, Port Glasgow, England : http://www.clydesite.co.uk/...
And served in Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia until 1979 when she became a training ship for the Australian Maritime College until 2004 : http://www.mhav.net/...

She was never actually "the sister ship to the Royal Yacht Britannia" although Wyuna is said to be Australia's "Brittania" (sic), having been built on the Clyde in 1953 to a classic 20th century design." HMY Britannia was in fact built at John Brown & Co Clydebank with an outstanding record of having launched some of the world's most famous passenger ships.

We have put more pictures of the Norge in the Gallery, including some with King Harald's TP 52 Fram XVI alongside. This is a very appropriate use of the yacht as she was built, as Philante, for Sopwith to use for the same purpose with the J class Endeavour : http://www.bymnews.com/...

Beautiful picture of Al Said taken few days ago in Oman. It's so rare to have some pictures of her homeport. Note that the sailyacht Zinat al-Biharr is moored behind her! Link : http://www.shipspotting.com/...
