Islander - a megayacht that cannot be categorised? Indeed, Islander is neither a sailing-ship, nor a motor-yacht. Nevertheless her design has not been compromised because as her performance is almost good under sails as under power. By using water jets in the place of propellers her resulting streamlined hull does not reduce marine qualities under sails. Moreover, there is no compromise on habitable volume thanks to her impressive superstructure worthy of the largest motor-yachts. All is automated for navigation under sails, and two telescopic boards bring perfect stability and allow her to reach shallow areas when raised. Very original outside, her interior installation, in spite of a good specification, suffers from a decoration of questionable taste...

The lower deck accommodates the engine room (aft), four guests staterooms, a gymnasium with sauna (to the center), and the crew quarters (forward).

A characteristic of the main deck is that it occupies the full beam over all its entire length. Aft is a bathing platform, which is also ideal for fishing. Beyond is the lounge ? one of the largest to be found on a yacht of this size. This feature is composed of several relaxation areas including one with a grand piano. Next to be discovered is a very large dining room (to the center), a galley (to port side), a large entrance with a small lounge followed by an office which can transformer into a bed room (to starboard side), and the very large owner's suite (completely forward) having two outstanding bathrooms.

The upper deck contains a panoramic lounge with a large bar (aft) followed by the captain's stateroom and the pilothouse (forward). The back of this deck accommodates two tenders which are able to be launched by an impressive crane (see photo). The former owner, Edward Cantor, made use of this to move two tenders of much larger size (such as a mahogany Riva) and two cars. These toys seem to have disappeared today.

To finish, there is the sundeck with its small swimming pool (aft), a bar (to the center), a false funnel containing a lift which serves the four decks, and a second pilot stationwheel (forward). With her 2500m² of sails, Islander is completely autonomous for very long voyages.
