The latest Feadship, Kahalani, was launched last week. She's the successor of another Feadship, also named Kahalani (now renamed Eclipse, and launched under the name Sea Sedan in 1993). The new one is a 55.05m, hull 679, exterior design from De Voogt, interior from Rémi Tessier.

The new Pestifer arrived last week at the port Canto, her homeport. The yacht is moored near her predecessor, now renamed Pestifer I. It's impressive to see the difference of volume between the two yachts. You can discover another view of Pestifer on her card : www.yachtspotter.com...

The new Pestifer (hull 680) was launched last Saturday. She's an impressive yacht of 65 metres. Some pictures will be sent soon. You already discovered her hull and superstructure when they left the Slob yard (messages from the 07/19/2008) : http://www.yachtspotter.com...

Her performance at sea with that much horse power will be very interesting, but once again it looks like the designers have taken form over function. The view forward from the wheelhouse looks to be very limited and almost horizontal - hardly a safety feature if she is indeed a high speed cruiser.

Feadship has now announced a few details of the 75 m project which is underway at De Vries Makkum. The exact LOA will be 75,75 m, beam 13,50 m and draft will be 4,00 m. She will accommodate 14 guests and 20 crew, the facilities will include three lounges, a cinema, a helipad and a health club with hamam, sauna and massage rooms. Two ten-person tenders and three jet skis will be carried. She will be launched in December 2008. Obviously a launch to look forward to.

De Vries also reports that they have celebrated the royal status and unveiled a crown on the roof of the building hall, "the Makkum Cathedral".

Yesterday morning we had an unfortunate start of the week. During the removal of some studs on the transom a fire started. Scaffolding wood caught fire which set the translucent panel on fire in the outside wall. The fire was under control within 20 minutes thanks to our BHV team and the local fire dept. It looked more dramatical then it really was, indeed it caused a lot of smoke outside. Nobody got hurt, which is the most important. The yacht next to the incident had no mechanical or smoke damage. Most damage is to the shed.

Posted by Cusith | 08/20/2007 @ 18:30 | Reply

Inevitable did not get damaged in the fire. The fire was caused by a welder working on the extension of Inevitable. Insulation material that was lying on the floor caught fire and burnt a hole in the shed. Also some furniture lying in the yard caught fire. Inevitable itself didn’t get damaged at all, except for some smoke marks on the putside of the hull.

Dear Mark, wait until she comes back out the shed from Makkum, you will see (hopefully you will agree) that the mass of the mast will be reduced. She still has a little way to go yet, you are in few for a surprise!

Leveller, yes the tenders are from Vikal, the limo is quite stunning! Again carefully under wraps...

Posted by Mark | 02/24/2007 @ 12:10 | Reply

The one thing I would comment on for Anna - is her mast just a touch over powering - the mast arrangement is impressive but perhaps just too tall?

Posted by Yachtspotter | 02/24/2007 @ 12:05 | Reply

Indeed Leveller, there are two tender garages on both sides. The tenders are built by Vikal in a similar styling to the yacht. This solution was already used on Feadships like Attessa, Fortunato, and Callisto.

Posted by Leveller | 02/24/2007 @ 12:00 | Reply

If you look on the picture of Anna you can find a fine line (like a tender storage) in the bow area, which is something to open I think. Does anyone know what is behind?

Posted by Mark | 02/23/2007 @ 19:50 | Reply

Agreed - quite a different design for Feadship and for a three and a half decker she is much improved over Lady Marina of a few years back and also of the more recent Dream.

Then we can imagine that it will be used just for "touch" operations. It was the same on Attessa after her refit. The forward helipad was covered of teak, but it's still possible to use it in case of emergency (in addition of the second new helipad).

Posted by Merijn | 02/05/2007 @ 12:35 | Reply

The helipad is now covered with teak, so we can imagine that it will be used for leisure purposes instead of helicopter operations. Here are some photos of Utopia and Siran I made on Saturday : http://www.superyachttimes.com/...

Does anyone know about the tender storage on the new Gallant Lady? On the 172, there is a garage with a small door opening near the stern on the port side, but there doesn't appear to be one on the new Gallant Lady. I'm just curious since she has limited deck space.

Here is the photo of the unfinished Anna and nearly finished Gallant Lady.

Posted by Johan | 01/21/2007 @ 12:30 | Reply

It is really instructive to see Anna and Gallant Lady side by side, as Gallant Lady is a very voluminous 50 metre yacht. Anna's tonnage is 1549 GRT, only a little less than Utopia's 1564 (Ecstasea's tonnage is 2107 GRT).

Off course Mark is refering to pictures on Merijn's website : http://www.superyachttimes.com/...

Posted by Mark | 01/20/2007 @ 20:30 | Reply

With a beam over 13 metres, the new Anna's profile is an enhancement for Feadship allowing full beam forward and upper deck saloon's as well as forward enclosed tender bays, and thus a similar interior volume to say a Lurssen yacht of the same length. When compared to Gallant Lady lying alongside at the yard, Anna is a truly massive motor yacht.

We can imagine that P3016 is Feadship because there are tender garages in the bow as for Attessa, Fortunato or Callisto. Except for Cantieri Liguri and Shahnaz, I do not know an other yard which uses this process. And if this hull is Anna, it is about a great modification compared to Solemar.

In regards to the interior I have it from reliable sources that Silver Lining is only making a very small portion of the loose furniture. The rest of the interior is done Feadship.

The vessel and the client are extremely private but I would be happy to divulge some information on Anna. She has a length of 67 metres with a beam of 13.1 metres. She will reach 17 knots.

Mick Leach has designed interior and exterior. It will be a strikingly different exterior design, oyster white and silver in color. All of the interior furniture will be made by Silver Lining in the UK, a very lavish interior, raised and fielded panel work.

The Captain and crew have been fully involved into the development of all engineering systems. And of course Feadship and their supporting contractors have done a great job.

The tenders are built by Vikal in a similar styling to the yacht.
Delivery date to be confirmed.

No, this yacht is quite a bit different from the last, although mainly on the inside. The wheelhouse is now on the highest deck, where the observation lounge was on the previous yacht. The view from the wheelhouse is amazing, as it is very high up for a 50m yacht.

You can see the golden F on this other view taken by Christo303. I don't know your opinion on this F, but it seems to come from another edge as opposed to the modern design of the yacht...

Posted by Maarten | 11/19/2006 @ 13:00 | Reply

Interesting detail : on her bow there is a large F, that stands for Feadship. It was a special request from the owner, who is very proud to own Feadships. I think this is the first time ever that such a large reference to the builder is placed on a yacht. I believe the F and the wings to each side were made out of aluminium by the yard, and look great! It doesn't really show on the photographs, but the forward facing windows on each deck are very pointed.

Siran successfully finished her sea trials last Friday. She is back in Makkum to get the last works done. Inevitable (ex 641, Mi Gaea) is on her way from Amsterdam to Makkum To have a big interior/exterior refit. She will arrrive Thursday.

This new photo shows the curve of the roof above the top observation lounge... Previous photos were taken low down, so it wasn't visible. I'm not sure this curved roof complements the design (which consciously lacks curves in the profile). Unfortunately, I have to agree with Designo, I'm not a fan of Siran's new look.

About the three windows next to the funnel, that were mentioned by Maarten : they don?t look like false windows and as far as I can see, it looks as if there?s a narrow gangway behind them.

The bridgedeck tender bays have indeed been provided with windows now but since the overhead launching cranes are still in place, one can assume that the tender bays will still be used as such. And as Mark correctly pointed out : Siran?s exquisite venetian tender would not fit in the new garage and I can?t imagine that they will discard that beautiful tender.

The propulsion system is noteworthy : two conventional shafts with propellors and two azipods with propellors rotating in the opposite direction. More on that issue at http://www.abb.com/...

Beautiful refit, well done De Vries Makkum! I wonder if the three windows by Siran's funnel on the new upper deck are false windows..? (the base of the mast used to be very wide, I can imagine this is still the case, and the windows are merely there for good looks..)

About Callisto, a few charter sites have published her layout and interior (the sites are protected by passwords for the moment). Her interior is typical Disdale, but just slightly more classical. The owners cabin has a large study and dressing room. The master cabin features a his' bathroom (in white and blue marble) and a her's bathroom (in pink and white) She has a beautiful wheelhouse with what looks like teak floors.

At the Monaco yachtshow, Feadship displayed a new model of the SL series (http://www.yacht-images.com/...). She reminds me of a smaller version of Cakewalk. What a wonderful design!

They also displayed a radical new design study, aggressive, modern and spectacular!

Good remark. This garage configuration seems to be "à la mode". You can find them on the last CRN, Custom Line, Alloy Yachts, etc...

Posted by Johan | 09/29/2006 @ 11:50 | Reply

The size of the garage doors indicate that the tender will come out at a right angle to the hull like on some recent CRNs, which also means that there is only room for one tender.

Posted by Yachtspotter | 09/29/2006 @ 10:10 | Reply

Indeed Mark, I didn't notice it, but there are new windows behind the side lodges for the tenders!

No doubt we should soon see the GA plan and interiors of Callisto. She looks like a "modernised" Cakewalk with the forward enclosed tender arrangement.

Any word on what Utopia is having done?

One wonders what is going to happen to Siran?s beautiful Venetian Taxi tender ? will she still be carried amidships on the boat deck (looks like new windows have appeared here) or will it be carried elsewhere? The new tender garage aft is not big enough to fit this superb tender.

One also wonders if the aft sun deck has had a spa pool incorporated into it to replace the one forward? It would be easy to imagine that this refit cost a very substantial sum ? probably not dissimilar to what the yacht cost to build back in 1992. I would wager that the owners think of the original purchase price as a real bargain in today?s market, although at the time it was a huge sum of money for a boat.

Thank you Spotter707. I'm not a fan of the refits, but I have to admit that this one is beautiful! We can clearly see the new garage in the hull. Now I'm curious to know the exact new LOA of Siran...

At last an extension, both upwards and lengthwise, that did not spoil the lines of the yacht! Given that the owner seemed to have good taste from the very beginning there was no reason to worry, but it is reassuring to see the final result. Admittedly, it looks a bit different, but still very balanced. Unfortunately, the old funnel structure has been lost, it was one of the best looking funnels in my opinion.

Anyone who knows if the original designers (Bannenberg/Heywood) have been involved, or if it was done by someone else (de Voogt perhaps)? Given the size of the aft deck, will the tenders be moved to the aft deck now?

Posted by Mark | 09/26/2006 @ 11:40 | Reply

Great photo ? I cannot imagine they have moved the wheelhouse from its original location ? the new "room" must be an additional observation lounge in place of the forward spa pool (unless the spa pool is now enclosed ? similar to Cedar Sea?s arrangement). Interesting to have made such an addition given the owner already has a dedicated observation lounge forward of the bridge and above this sleeping quarters. One wonders if it is fully enclosed or open to the stern? The good news is of course is that no damage has been done to a masterful design. Well done to the owners and designers and of course the builders.

Aalsmeer, September 18, 2006

At the De Vries Scheepsbouw yard workers party the mayor of Aalsmeer handed over the official scroll from Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands, declaring by Royal Warrant that De Vries Scheepsbouw my use the designation "Koninklijk" (Royal).

Johan de Vries, great-grandfather of the current generation running the family business, started the first De Vries boatyard in the village of Aalsmeer in 1906, building flat bottom wooden boats for the local community. Four of his sons started shipyards building pleasure craft, also for export, in the twenties and thirties. After World War II, De Vries was one of the founders of Feadship, a Dutch export cooperation that became the de-facto industry standard in the seventies and eighties, under the control of the third generation De Vries, together with their colleagues from Royal Van Lent. Feadship now is the market leader in the world of large custom-built yachts, and the fourth generation is at the helm of a company with subsidiaries in shipbuilding and yachting in the Netherlands.

In the De Vries Scheepsbouw group of companies over 500 people are employed, besides the 280 in the yard in Aalsmeer there are 250 in Papendrecht (hull construction), Makkum (Feadship XL and refits), Leiden (aluminium, engineering, yacht equipment) and Heiloo (mechanical engineering). Together with Royal van Lent De Vries owns Feadship and Naval Architects De Voogt. Seven members of the fourth generation are currently employed in De Vries Scheepsbouw.

Feadship builds large luxury yachts for a discerning international client base. The order book of Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw is well-filled until into 2010 with 8 projects, ranging in size from 39 to 86 meters.

The little blue boat in front is named the Miss Behave and that?s exactly what she did? It?s a Long Island 33 ft sportsman from New England yachts?

These guys, who we?re apparently the Dutch importers of this boat had the bright (?) idea to bring their newest product to this launch so that they could photograph their little boat next to the Callisto and so that they could get a bit of fringe publicity out of the launch of Callisto.

It might have been a good idea from their point of view but the little boat was really ruining the view, was going up and down all the time and was really miss behaving.

Their idea to get some good photo?s of their boat will have backfired I think, thanks to the light. The big white yacht actually takes all the light away in the photos and I have a feeling that most of their pictures of their boat in front of Callisto will not show their little boat to good effect? Very difficult, with the low winter sun, to correctly photograph a small blue boat against a massive white background.

I hope that they won?t have the same idea again for the next launch.
