Another refit, of the beginning of the summer, was the one of the Codecasa Grace E : full paintjob with a new grey hull, and the modification of the sundeck on the same concept than the one of the Codecasa Cyan (but with a smoother design). The Feadship King K seems to be under modification since her sale last year. The sundeck was lengthened to accommodate the tenders, and it could be an emergency helipad... This new massive piece of aluminium needs a paintjob.

Another Greek refit was recently finished, the one of S Cape. Her profile was extensively altered with a modification of the foredeck, the sundeck, the aftdecks, etc... It's really difficult to change the design of a classic like this Cammenga, and I'm not sure that the final result is the best one. But it's only a personal feeling, see by yourself : http://www.yachtspotter.com...

Interesting to see her new (although yet unfinished) looks. She has become more like a sister to the former Paminusch, another de Fever design. According to the Nobla website, de Voogt naval architects have done the redesign, which is the probable reason that she still have a dignified and well proportioned profile. Although it is a pity to see one of the best looking Feadships being altered, I am grateful that she still has classic good looks.

Yes, a new wheelhouse was created on the upper deck. There is also a new master suite. And you can find a media center in place of the former wheelhouse. Kayana accommodates 12 guests now (and a crew of 6).

We didn't have words about the refit of Kalizma, the shocking refit of Kalizma! I agree, her interior needed an upgrade. But her exterior was completely altered with this addition of the third deck! Her stern lost her grace too. The reason was the addition of a Jacuzzi! Shame on you designers or owners responsible of that! It's time to stop the usual superlatives of the mags, to say, it's a real scandal! We have definitively lost a slim and refined yacht. Link : http://www.mykalizma.com

Here is a picture of the recently refitted Maverick II. The refit took place at Derecktor, Florida.

The main modifications on the design are : a new mast with two domes on each sides, an extension of the sundeck creating a roof for a dining area in aft position on the bridge deck, a modification of the tender area (just one tender now, positioned on the width) with a new crane.

There was also an upgrade of the technical area, and an update of the decoration.

I thank DHE for his picture!

A remarkable feature of Delma (formerly Annaliesse) and her sister-ship Alysia is the blue/purple deck lighting used at night, which makes them very distinguishable, particularly at anchor. Since red, green and white should obviously be avoided, this blue makes a lot of sense and should be more widely used. It must be a brainchild of the original owner Andreas Liveras or his designer Alpha Marine/H. Poulias. With these two ships Mr Liveras was also a pioneer of building mega-yachts to IMO standards so they could accommodate more than the statutory 12 passengers. He deserves much credit for his visionary ideas.

Photo of P/V Delma (ex. P/V Annaliesse) taken in Cannes Tuesday 7th August 2007 : with newly-painted all-white hull and superstructure.

She appears to look somewhat "smaller" with the white-painted hull compared to the previously quite drab grey colour. Overall, I think it's an improvement, though I would have repainted the hull in an off-white or even a creamy white like Pelorus or Coral Island to contrast more with the basic white of the superstructure. Other cosmetic changes : the previously black or grey-painted surrounds to some features (ie. glassed areas to the main deck and upper decks, helicopter pad etc.) are now a dark blue; new security measures required on any yacht of such stature (the P/V Delma is now owned by the "Royal family" of a prominent Gulf-state after all).

The refit was somewhat disrupted in order to accommodate the new owner's wish to be able to use the yacht this summer. I understand that the new owner is very content after this first cruise. "No expenses are to be spared" this winter in order to complete the refit and bring the ex. Annaliesse into "better than new" condition.

Plan B (ex Flinders) was on the Côte d'Azur during the last days. It was the opportunity to see the modifications since her recent refit. First the yacht has a new paint job with light and dark greys. Her sundeck was reorganized : an enclosed superstructure was added (maybe a gym), the Jacuzzi was moved forward, and an helipad was created behind. To have an helipad of a good size, the two last aft decks were slightly lengthened. Note also the substitution of the large crane (on the foredeck) by a smaller one. We can also imagine there was an upgrade of the interior, but there is no clue about it for the moment.

Some news of Tueq since her refit. Her stern was lengthened of 7 metres. If you remember the former stern, the newer also offers two curved stairs on each sides. These stairs are larger, and the end of the hull is designed to follow them. Nice job.

A little update about masts, domes, etc...

The radar arch of Element was modified (see picture). The two domes were raised, maybe a problem of shadow. It will be easier to spot her from far. The modification was done in Barcelona this winter.

Capella C (see picture) had a long refit in Florida. Few modifications are visible outside, excepting a reorganization of her domes. Now she has two giant domes (not really aesthetic) above the wheelhouse. Two smaller ones, previously present to this place, were moved backward.

Kogo stood a long time in the yards of Marseille the last winter. She had also a modification of her domes. Those of the mast are all similar now, and two smaller ones were added on the top of it. And two other domes were added above the wheelhouse (one more time, not really aesthetic) : http://www.shipspotting.com/...

To complete my post of 09/29/2006, here are two pictures of the upper aft deck of Indian Empress. This part was modified in Marseille in September 2006.

When she was named Al Mirqab (see above), this deck was a helipad. I never saw a helicopter on board, and in place this helipad became a platform for toys, tenders, jet skis, etc... The helipad was without teak to be easily cleaned. Since she's Indian Empress (see below), the deck was refitted to accommodate lounges, tables, solarium, and a bar. And the deck is entirely covered with teak now.

As I said in the "new names" topic, Moon Dance is renamed Aquarius W. The yacht has a little refit. From the exterior you can notice her new beige hull, and also a slightly larger dome on the mast.

The last Aquarius W known was the three masted yacht now renamed El Boughaz I. She had also a beige hull after a refit. So we can imagine that this smaller motor yacht is her successor...

Thanx Gushl. After seeing your pictures, I have mixed feelings. I don't know about the color red for ol' Bart, I think she looked a lot better with the black hull. One thing I do like is they got rid of that ugly yellow foremast, the profile looks a lot better. In a couple of the pictures you can see the hull is pretty beat up, full of ripples and dents, a far cry from the megayacht-finish standard, no wonder it was on the market for so long.

An unbelievable project is under way. I just found an article about the future of the yacht Pilar Rossi. This yacht began her life as an Italian motoryacht of 33.50 metres. Then she began a trimaran after a modification of her hull. In 2004, her bow was lengthened to reach a LOA of 45.10 metres. And now, it seems that the yacht is (one more time) under refit. Her bow was changed again to reach the LOA of 64 metres, and two masts will be added to change the yacht into a schooner! I'm waiting for a confirmation to give you more details.

We forgot to talk about the extensive refit of Revelation. It was finished in 2006. Her upper deck was completely redesigned. Here is the Stabbert's description :

"The refit included the addition of a 65 ft house structure which makes up the new Master Stateroom, bath, lounge, and helicopter pad. The vessel tenders, which originally sat where the new structure resides, have been relocated above the new super structure where they are launched using a new state of the art wireless crane system. In addition to the new house structure, the yacht under went extensive work including interior upgrades and an exterior high finish paint job."

The result is a new profile. You can see the difference thanks to these pictures :

Don Giovanni had another refit last year. This Japanese tug was converted into a yacht by Tecnomar few years ago. This new refit began in 2005 and it was done by MB92 in Barcelona.

You can see that an enclosed upper deck was added behind the wheelhouse. The two funnels were raised above this new level. A new sundeck was created above this new superstructure. And now the tender is above a new circular room between the aft deck and the interior.

Northern Star stood two months at Lürssen Rendsburg. We can imagine that she had some maintenance works, but we also notice a modification on her radar mast.

You can see the differences between my picture (taken this summer in Monaco) and the one of Carl (taken yesterday in Kiel). The former central dome is now on the top of the mast, on a new platform. At its place, there is the radar which was one level below. And at the place of the radar, there is a new dome.

Now the yacht is supposed to leave Germany for Caribbean.

About a week ago, the CRN Jameel, arrived at the IYCA. As reported before, she has received a rather substantial refit where the aft helicopter deck was replaced with a normal upper saloon. The refit looks rather strange as it clearly shows the big contrast between the original clear cut lines of the CRN yacht and the much "rounder" looking addition of the aft deck. A strange yacht from the beginning, she still looks very strange after this substantial rebuild.

The Feadship Tugatsu had an extensive refit during the winter. It took place in La Ciotat, France. The yacht has a blue hull now. The portholes design of the full beam section is changed. The sundeck is lengthened to create a roof above the aft of the upper deck. On this roof, you find the tender. Following that the tenders (and the cranes) are removed from their initial location. And the radar mast is also modified. I'm waiting for more information. The yacht is cruising the Balearic Islands.

Constellation had a long refit in Barcelona during this winter. Some visible modifications : a new paintjob, and a bimini above the sundeck (a good detail to differentiate her from her sister Stargate).

The World is not Enough is launched again. She was under refit at Rybovich Spencer yard. The first visible modifications : a new bathing-platform lengthened and extended to the full beam of the yacht, a new sundeck lengthened to the aft.

Indeed! Not a surprise, it was reported that the former owner or captain thought that Anson Bell was too low on water. You can compare with this photo : http://www.sparkmanstephens.com/...

Please note that the bow of Helios 2 has been raised as well, before the refit she had unbroken sheerline.

To complete some previous messages about Helios 2, here are two pictures of the yacht. The new paintjob is composed of a white and grey superstructure, and a blue hull. The bathing-platform was slightly lengthened with new stairs. The former ones were included in the aft deck, so we can imagine that they were removed with a new design of the aft deck to extend the livable area.

I saw the Heesen Sweet Doll yesterday. She had a refit during the winter following her sale. It's known that she has a new interior design now. But there is also a modification of her exterior design. She has a new sundeck accommodation with a roof (like Yalla) and an enclosed area. That gives a new profile to the yacht. Pictures will follow when I will be back.

Note also some structural modifications on Force Blue. The aft deck of the bridge deck is totally open now. On the upper deck, the superstruture was lengthened in place of the aft deck. And the side windows of this deck are larger now.

The former Aquarius W was recently sold. She's just renamed El Boughaz I. For the moment the new name is just on the sides of the superstructure, but the former one is still on the stern. It seems that she is under modification in La Ciotat, and the most visible one is a large black line on the hull.

I was in Miami 4 days ago and saw her in the shipyard... The Benetti Aquila (former Amnesia 50m) was next to her drydocking undergoing maintenance work as well. I saw them in the same shipyard but I really do no recall the name. Anyway it was very close to Richard Bertram's shipyard and close to the Car Rental deposits... Too bad I didn't pay attention to it!

Caterina, Paul Walter posted these words during the last year on the former forum. I think that it will help you :

"Albacora of Tortola must be still at the Sietas yard in Hamburg. In August she, together with the floating dock she is in, was towed from the main Sietas yard about 8nm upstream to a subsidiary of the Sietas yard, called the Norderwerft which is next to Blohm & Voss."

Here are some pictures of M.Y. Golden Rule, ex- Excellence. The boat is in the middle of a rolling refit. The hull has been painted, A/C upgrades, rebuilt Main Engines, Atlas shore power converter, new watermakers and the interior has been refinished excluding the bathrooms. Next yard period they will add new Northern lights generators and might paint the superstructure in the fall.

Kootenay67, no doubt that this Marlena is the Marlena built by Trinity. I also think that she's around 40m, at least, I even think 42m... About the yard, she was often spotted at Izar Cartagena in Spain. I think that the refit was done there.

Posted by Kootenay67 | 02/07/2006 @ 11:10 | Reply

I read somewhere that Marlena was 40m. I think on website of refit yard but didnt think it was Trinity S/F as she was only 126 ft so was trying to mine another 40m Marlena. I wish I could remember what yard i saw it listed under. Hope this helps a little. I am not sure it would be same yacht but the possibilitiy is there.

A very interesting picture, thanks to sangatanga. Here is the new design of Marlena. It seems that this refit was done in Spain. Many modifications. The stern was lengthened, with the addition of a bathing-platform. On the aft deck a lounge was added. Below we can imagine that there is a new crew quarter (see portholes). The aft deck of the upper deck was also lengthened, with the addition of a Jacuzzi. It could be interesting to know the new length of Marlena now!

I saw her a couple of days ago. No modification for the moment. She has still her usual colors, blue hull and white superstructure. But you're right that there are some paint jobs on her. For the moment the superstructure is partially covered. Maybe they will continue with the hull after. I will do some pictures the next time I will be in the port.

Lady Joy had a pb with the mast fitted by Global in Savannah, the 2 domes were too closed and had 60% of shadow. As the boat was chartered, Nautech Shipyard has been requested to study a new mast and fit the mast in the beginning of July. We had only 4 days to do so. On Wednesday we have designed the new mast and purchased the material, on Thursday we have started to weld 24/24 until Friday 5pm, we have transported the mast in a special paint shed with application of AwlGrip cycle including last generation liquid fairing and transport the mast from Marseille to Cannes on Saturday night where we have prepared a cherry peaker, the mast have been fitted during the night and tested on Sunday with success. The Owner was on board during the work. End of the story.
